This blog post is a summary of a recent panel survey project managed by Research & Marketing Strategies (RMS) which donated its staff’s time and service’s to the Rescue Mission.

Background: Research & Marketing Strategies (RMS) recently partnered with the Rescue Mission to conduct market research. This market research was done in-kind as a donation of RMS’s services to the Central New York division of the Rescue Mission. The main objective of the market research study was to better understand perceptions and usage of its redemption centers. The research aimed to provide insight into marketing and advertising campaigns, including how to most effectively market the redemption center model.

Approach: RMS consulted with the Rescue Mission in the development of an online survey containing 14 questions which lasted approximately 3 minutes. Invitations were sent to RMS in-house market research ViewPoint panel members requesting their participation. The survey topics covered were:

  • Current behavior for bottle and can returns
  • Reasons for choosing the most preferred method
  • Impact of the Mission Returns business model on usage
  • Important factors when choosing a redemption location
  • Familiarity of the Rescue Mission as an organization
  • Awareness of Mission Returns
  • Final thoughts or comments about Mission Returns

Results: The ViewPoint panel survey took approximately one week to complete. Nearly 600 completed survey were returned from the Central New York panel for this study. The RMS Analytics team is currently in the process of constructing a PowerPoint report for the Rescue Mission and will debrief with the management team on the findings to interpret the data, make recommendations based on the market research, and discuss next steps.
